Obtaining a natural navel with no visible scar involves a deep knowledge of human anatomy and proper techniques in the treatment of wounds such as “Z” plasties and flaps.
There are multiple and varying techniques, but most of them continue to produce defective and unpleasant navels with visible scars. This is the largest aesthetic limitation of abdominoplasty.
The umbilicoplasty technique suggested in this chapter, from authors with over 20 years in practice, shows how to reposition and treat the neo-navel with the “Y-T” technique to achieve a natural navel, which does not look like it has been surgically formed. Instead the new navel provides beauty to the abdomen, which is relevant in this era of navel display.
