Abstract

Primary revision of the femoral component of a THA with use of cement without bone graft reconstruction is less frequently used because it has been associated with early mechanical failure due to aseptic loosening [1, 2]. Indeed the initial reports of cemented femoral revision showed disappointing long-term survival results [3–7]. The results, in fact, depend on multiple parameters as the number of prior revisions, cementing technique quality, residual bone stock, etc. [1]. More recent studies however using newer cementing techniques and proper patient selection demonstrated improvement of the results [8–10].
