Abstract
This approach exploits the intermuscular plane between the tensor fasciae latae (TFL) and the gluteus medius with partial or complete detachment of some or all of the abductor mechanism from greater trochanter [1]. There is no true internervous plane as both these muscles have a common nerve supply, the superior gluteal nerve [2]. The fascia lata is divided at the interval between the TFL and gluteus maximus, and then the tendon and muscle fibers of the gluteus medius are split with various techniques leaving a cuff of gluteus medius tendon for repair following the procedure [2, 3]. The gluteus minimus and joint capsule are split either in line with the neck of the femur or in line with the tendinous part of the gluteus minimus [1].
