Abstract

In 2015, the nonprofit VocalEssence launched Vintage Voices, an innovative program that integrates choral music into the lives of seniors in underserved communities. Vintage Voices creates choirs in assisted living homes and senior centers to help aging adults strengthen their health, reduce depression, and increase engagement. This chapter describes a developmental evaluation that was used to help inform and strengthen program implementation. Using community-responsive principles, The Improve Group team designed evaluation activities to meet the needs of aging choir participants—and revealed the many ways that Vintage Voices is helping improve their quality of life.
