Abstract
The Café wall illusion is a strong effect. Bricks or tiles can create a pattern in which the mortar lines between them do not look parallel. Like many illusions it has an interesting story (and the café that gave the name to the illusion is an actual place in Bristol). It is also closely related to an older effect known as the Münsterberg illusion. We will write a program in which we can toggle between the two illusions. The pattern drawn will have seven columns and nine rows, and the controller will allow the user to shift the black objects and optimise the effect.
