Abstract
Trafficking in human beings is a chronic and complex issue that is affected by many factors such as poverty, immigration, gender inequality, institutional imbalances, and weak management systems. As a source, destination, and transit country of human trafficking, it is more difficult and challenging for China to deal with human trafficking than some other countries. This chapter mainly introduces the current situation of human trafficking in China and discusses the history, consequences, types, and causes of human trafficking. The government’s response and prevention mechanisms for human trafficking are also part of the discussion. Although China has made many efforts to combat human trafficking through domestic and international actions, the fundamental countermeasures should be to eliminate poverty and gender inequality, and address other causes. In that case it should be expected that China will make significant progress in combating trafficking.
