Abstract

The designing and construction of an endoscopy unit requires planning, knowledge of ambulatory surgery building regulations, and meticulous attention to detail with the goal of superior healthcare delivery and patient-centered care. The process can take up to 3 years from “conception to move in”, and should be tailored to the specific needs of an endoscopy center. A modern unit incorporate spacious, user friendly patient lounge, preparation and recovery bays, well designed, spacious endoscopy suites with special room for advanced endoscopy and fluroscopy, and strategically located sterilization facilities. An adjoining motility suite, and seemless patients flow is important. All of this requires teamwork throughout this long process, but, if done correctly, will be the framework for a successful and rewarding gastroenterology facility (GI), for both patients and staff, and one that can provide value-based care.
