Abstract
Schopenhauer thinks music gives privileged insight into the structure of the will. But he describes will as an endless striving while praising music as providing a model of desire satisfaction . I address this apparent contradiction: I believe an accurate understanding of his discussion of music revises our impression of his metaphysics.
