Abstract
Providing feedback to orthopaedic residents is crucial for them to become competent and independent surgeons. From the clinic to the operating room, faculty have multiple settings to provide feedback. Providing effective feedback can be one of the hardest skills for faculty to master and this chapter explains the components of effective feedback as well as the different types. Multiple models for delivering feedback and different personality types are explained so that faculty can tailor one to their teaching style and resident personality. In addition, the chapter details differences between clinical and operative feedback and how to optimize effective feedback in each scenario. This chapter provides a great foundation for faculty to learn about and deliver effective feedback, so that they can have the greatest impact on their resident’s learning and development.
