Abstract
Tumors of the umbilicus account for more than one-tenth of all malignant tumors that affect the skin of the anterior abdominal wall. It occurs frequently enough to have some diagnostic and prognostic value, and too rarely for most clinicians to gain acceptable experience with it. Umbilicus is not just a piece of skin, which may be affected by other skin neoplasm as any part of the body, but it is a specific structure with many embryonal remnants, as well as a complex braided lymphatic network drainage. Hence, primary malignant neoplasms affecting the umbilicus require a specific more radical surgical approach compared with other neoplasm.
