Notes

  1. 1.

“Russians, including Putin ally, join bailed-in board of Bank of Cyprus ” 10 September 2013. See http://www.reuters.com/article/bankofcyprus-idUSL5N0H63FF20130910.

  2. 2.

See: “My patience has reached its limits: Anastasiades mulls legal action over the CBC Governor’s ‘inadequacies’”, by George Christou, Cyprus Mail , 19 September 2013.

  3. 3.

Article 118.2 states that the Governor of the CBC has the power of managing the CBC according to Article 119.1.

  4. 4.

One example of such imaginary events was my alleged installation of 94 security cameras to monitor the CBC staff in their offices, which turned out to be four cameras that were installed outside elevators following prior data protection clearance (which was obtained during the tenure of the previous Governor, Athanasios Orphanides ), which I was not even aware of. The story made headlines in various local TV stations and daily newspapers, who found the opportunity to describe me as ‘big brother’.

  5. 5.

The report was sent to Makarios Droushiotis, a close aide of the President with whom the board had regular email correspondence.

  6. 6.

Relevant excerpts of the president’s interview (in Greek) can be found in an article on Cyprus Stockwatch , 3 October 2013 entitled “Ο προέδρος ρίχνει το γάντι στον διοικητή της ΚΤ”.

  7. 7.

See “President: CBC Governor must go”, by George Psyllides , Cyprus Mail , 18 October 2013.

  8. 8.

In 2016 Erotocritou was dismissed from that position by the Supreme Court on grounds of misconduct. In February 2017, he was found guilty of corruption and collusion by a criminal court. He is currently serving a three and a half year prison sentence.
