Abstract
Meghnad Saha was a student of Mathematics but very soon he mastered Physics on his own. Teaching and research went hand in hand. How he came across problems in astrophysics, applied his knowledge of thermodynamics and spectroscopy and derived his ‘theory of thermal ionization’, visit to Europe, Albert Fowler’s help and guidamce, experiments he performed in Nernst’s laboratory in Germany etc. are described in this chapter.
