Abstract

Full Film/Music analyses of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extraterrestrial are featured, focussing on how the score cooperates with the other cinematic devices to produce the local and global design of the narration. A film scholar’s analysis of these films is compared with recent analyses by musicologists, to stress the different angles and the different results.
