Abstract

In the early decades of the twentieth century a certain optimism surrounded the act of creativity. Formal innovation, linguistic experiment and a thematics inspired by the new disciplines of psychology, sociology and anthropology led modernist writers to view the imagination as a conduit of higher understanding.
