Abstract

The symptoms of sputum production, dyspnoea and fatigue, which are accompanied by impaired exercise tolerance and reduced health-related quality of life, support the rationale for pulmonary rehabilitation in bronchiectasis. This chapter will review patient characteristics of those referred to rehabilitation and options for assessing exercise capacity, symptoms and quality of life. The types of outpatient and inpatient models of rehabilitation and their short- and long-term clinical effects will be reviewed and the role of potential adjunctive therapies outlined. Suggestions for future research in this clinical area will be discussed.
