Abstract
A 4-year-old boy was taken to the emergency service with pain in the lumbar region and thighs, gait imbalance and reluctance to walk, of approximately 3 weeks duration. On physical examination he had a defensive gait caused by pain and rotation of the left inferior limb. No other signs or symptoms were present, including fever. The child had no relevant clinical background (◘ Figs. 47.1, 47.2, 47.3 and 47.4).
