Abstract
Pediatric ocular malignancies are rare. Oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeons can expect to become involved with the treatment of orbital, conjunctival, and eyelid lesions. Some malignancies originating in the globe or from metastatic origin may also require oculoplastic intervention due to extraocular extension, recurrence, or enucleation due to persistent or recurrent disease to prolong life and affect a cure. Other chapters in this text will discuss malignant lid and orbital malignancies in greater detail as these are virtually always in the purview of this subspecialty. This chapter will review conjunctival and intraocular malignancies to familiarize readers with these conditions which may not always require the services of oculoplastic practitioners and elucidate areas where potential oculoplastic involvement may arise.
