Abstract
This chapter proposes a series of alternative approaches in the development of informetric indicators for research assessment. It starts with a proposal for new indicators of the manuscript peer review process. Next, it presents an approach towards an ontology-based, informetric data management system, and launches the idea of creating informetric self-assessment tools. Finally, it illustrates the important role of models in the analysis of informetric data, by presenting a case study on scientific development.
