Essentials of Spinal Stabilization

Abstract

Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has been demonstrated to be a safe and effective alternative to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in the management of one- and two-level cervical disc herniation or spondylosis. Although the long-term efficacy of CDA for reduction of adjacent segment disease (ASD) requires more data to validate, many reports clearly indicate CDA’s preservation of segmental mobility at the indexed level for more than 5 years. The key to successful CDA surgery depends on strict patient selection, generous decompression of neural elements, and meticulous installation of the device.
