Abstract
Cysticercosis is caused by the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. Taenia solium larvae can remain dormant for years; however, once they degenerate into granulomas and calcification occurs, the infection is inactive though transient edema may cause symptoms. Clinical manifestations can be broadly divided into neurocysticercosis and extraneural cysticercosis. Both forms can cause end-organ damage that influences anesthetic management. Prior to the initiation of labor analgesia, imaging of the spine and brain is recommended to rule out disease.
