Abstract

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy is a genetic disorder worsened during late pregnancy when heightened lipid metabolism contributes to accumulation of fatty acids in the liver. Symptoms are mostly attributable to liver and kidney damage and may include liver failure of hepatic encephalopathy. Prompt delivery of the fetus, with urgent cesarean delivery in severe cases, is key to recovery.
