Abstract
Jan Evangelista Purkinje was a nineteenth century Czech experimental physiologist whose radius of scientific interests encompassed the fields of subjective visual phenomena and ocular physiology, in addition to several other disciplines, including anatomy and pharmacology. His research investigations and discoveries contributed substantially to the development of both visual science and clinical ophthalmology as well as the evolution of new scientific disciplines such as neuroscience and cellular physiology.
