Abstract

Growing evidence in the literature testifies to the clinical safety and efficacy of the percutaneous treatment of mitral regurgitation (MR). The available data are mainly from multicenter registries or from case studies collected prospectively in individual centers. Data from randomized trials is rather limited. Among the different techniques available for interventional treatment of the mitral valve, percutaneous repair with the MitraClip System (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, CA) has definitely been the most studied technique, and the one with the most data currently available, though the feasibility and safety data for other percutaneous techniques (Cardioband, Mitralign, Carillon, transcatheter implantable mitral valve) have recently been published.
