Abstract
Farrell examines in this chapter the fate of the Gaelic elite under pressure of colonisation in Ulster, using a case study of those Irish who received lands in Dungannon for this purpose. Despite the frequent suggestion that the native experience cannot be meaningfully discerned due to a lack of sources, this chapter in particular demonstrates the extent of detail that can be mined from English administrative records, here supplemented by native Irish sources such as the war diary of the Franciscan friar Ó Mealláin.
