Small Intestinal Tests: Small Bowel Follow Through, CT Enterography, and MR Enterography

Abstract

Motility disorders of small bowel can be the underlying cause in approximately one-third or more of patients who present with gastrointestinal symptoms. While small bowel follow through is the most helpful modality in identifying dysmotility and mucosal abnormalities of small bowel, more expensive studies such as CT and MR are reserved to evaluate disease that can mimic as motility disorders. Ultimately, these imaging tests corroborated with clinical findings are other investigations to increase the diagnostic yield.
