Abstract

Thin and powder gold, which has very important meaning as the main reserve of noble metal, is often studied using electron microscopic methods. There are a lot of morphological and genetic varieties of these metal particles. One of them is the “aggregate” gold, which structure and chemical composition indicates to its specific genesis. The methods of high-resolution electron microscopy with microprobe analysis are applied for study of such unusual varieties. As a result, the globular structure is characterized for “aggregate” thin and powder gold. The obligatory chemical element in its composition is mercury (up to 30% and more). It is proved that this gold origins due to the process of natural amalgamation. Sometimes intergrowths of “aggregate” and other morphological types of gold are found.
