Abstract
In this chapter we describe five algorithms. First, we survey the optimal foraging algorithm which derives inspiration from optimal foraging theory. We then describe the group search optimiser algorithm and the predatory search algorithm which are inspired by the producer–scrounger foraging model and area-restricted search behaviour respectively. We also introduce the predator–prey optimisation algorithm which is developed from a synthesis of a predator–prey concept and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Finally, we outline the animal migration optimisation algorithm which is loosely inspired by an animal migration metaphor. The study of animal migration falls within the movement ecology literature.
