Abstract
Poisons can be grouped in various ways including plant, animal, and bacterial poisons and drugs. Among plant poisons are: colchicum seeds , atropine (belladonna) , aconite , strychnine , opium and morphine , cyanide (and potassium cyanide and prussic acid), digitalis , nicotine , hyoscine . Among animal derived poisons are cantharides and insulin . Bacterial poisons include: typhoid , tuberculosis, and diphtheria. Drugs can be potentially poisonous for example: fentanyl , methylphenobarbitone , Seconal sodium, succinylcholine chloride , and Vecuronium bromide are examples. For each of these poisons, a case or cases can be referenced in which the poison was used for homicide.
