Abstract
This longitudinal case study explores children’s reading of film and identifies a progression, which was demonstrated by a focus group of children as they moved from Year 3 to Year 6. This chapter introduces one of the main intentions of this research—to provide an accessible study for primary teachers and researchers, in order to support them in their consideration of film as a text within the curriculum. It considers the history of film in primary education, its current position and its potential future. This chapter also introduces the context for this research—the specific school and children in the focus group.
