Abstract
This chapter elaborates on the exo-prosthetic somatotype, which features the expulsion of the superhero’s organs, fluids, skeletal structures, or their objective correlatives into remote areas of the film’s diegetic space. Neither these organs nor their objective correlatives return to the characters that discharge them. The chapter then moves into a close consideration of the ways that the exo-prosthetic skills, weapons, and super-abilities of Batman, Spider-Man, the Punisher, Hawkeye, the Black Widow, and Deadpool affect the narrative arcs, spectacular effects, and mise-en-scène compositions of their respective films.
