Abstract

This chapter presents the third learning module of the Know Your Self curriculum, in which students develop an internal locus of existential meaning-making. First, they identify the existential worldview that fuels their destructive behaviors. Second, they shift the focus of their meditation practice from the development of self-regulation skills to its use as a method for psychospiritual exploration in the deep structure of the psyche. Using Frankl’s logotherapeutic methodology, students engage in contemplative self-inquiry during meditation. This helps them develop new insights about their attitudes and behaviors, while experiencing connection to a wise, core dimension of self. The chapter presents the meditative methods they use to explore the deep structure of contemplative mind, with narrative data illustrating this learning process.
