Arteriovenous Graft Inflow Stenosis

Dialysis Access Cases

Abstract

Arteriovenous accesses, both the grafts (AVG) and fistulae (AVF), require patency of inflow and outflow for performance of adequate dialysis. The presence of significant stenosis of the inflow reduces access flow, jeopardizes provision of adequate dialysis, and leads to eventual failure of AV access. It is important to recognize presence of inflow stenosis, which requires performance of angiography. Stenosis of inflow can usually be treated easily with angioplasty, though a stent or surgical correction of stenosis may be required in cases with recurrence.
