Abstract

This chapter discusses the case of a patient who had been on dialysis for 4 years. Over the past 6 months, he has developed progressively more severe congestive heart failure manifesting as dyspnea on exertion and orthopnea. The patient’s cardiac problems have been managed by a cardiologist who felt that he was receiving maximum medical management. The patient was referred to the dialysis access center because his nephrologist and cardiologist felt that he had a high blood flow fistula which was contributing to his cardiac failure.
