Abstract
Each of the seven case studies shared in Chaps. 2–8 showed steps taken by leaders to solve social issues and eventually co-create new social values in community. Throughout the process, the activities and mindsets of the people were transformed and new ways of doing things were developed, a process we referred to as “social innovation .” In other words, community development and social innovation are about co-creating social values by changing the way people think and act by establishing new relationships among multiple stakeholders.
The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say “I.” And that’s not because they have trained themselves not to say “I.” They don’t think “I.” They think “we,” they think “team.” They understand their job to be to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don’t sidestep it, but “we” gets the credit. This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done.
