Abstract
This chapter reviews how after a long hiatus, the patient-derived mouse models of cancer regained worldwide popularity. However, the “resurrected” patient-derived models were mostly the same as the original patient-derived mouse models of cancer established by Dr. Rygaard in 1969, even in the second decade of the 21st century, tumors growing subcutaneously in immune-deficient mice. Although orthotopic mouse models of cancer have been known for 35 years and orthotopic patient mouse models of cancer have been published for almost 30 years, the concept of the superiority of orthotopic mouse models has not sufficiently penetrated into the cancer research community.
