Abstract
This chapter explores the notion of influential partnerships: these are partnerships where one individual is able freely to advise or criticise a leader, either in virtue of their non-competitive but trusted relationship with the leader or by special licence or permission. The potential for a modern-day ‘court jester ’ role to be created in organisations, to act as a force for good and as a restraining influence on leaders when their behaviour becomes excessive, is explored.
