Tsunami and Fukushima Disaster: Design for Reconstruction

Abstract

Six years have elapsed since the Great East Japan Earthquake struck the country’s Tohoku region on 11 March 2011. A variety of projects are under way for the reconstruction of the disaster-affected area. The government declared the five-year period from 2011 until the end of March 2016 as the intensive reconstruction period, and is pouring considerable effort into the pillars of its reconstruction efforts, including support for survivors, restoration of public infrastructure, housing reconstruction and community development, reviving industry and livelihoods, revitalizing and reconstructing Fukushima and creation of a New Tohoku.
