Abstract

The anatomy, pathophysiology, and diagnosis of adrenal glands are presented in this chapter. The nuclear techniques describe the radiotracers used in the diagnosis of both the cortex and medulla of the adrenal glands. Because anatomical imaging studies are nonspecific and may not be sensitive for the presence of extra-adrenal foci, bilaterally tumors or metastatic disease, adrenal medullary scintigraphy may play a major role in the diagnosis of patients with pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma, or neuroblastoma; this procedure is detailed in the chapter. The nuclear therapy refers to the use of radiopharmaceuticals in the treatment of malignant pheochromocytoma.
