The development of the Western Siberian oil and gas complex as the last mega-energy project of the Soviet Union in the 1960s to 1980s could draw upon a rich history of Soviet energy projects. The definite industrialization and electrification of the Soviet Union under Stalin forced masses of peasants into all kinds of industries and industrial mega-projects.
