Abstract
This chapter outlines the contours of the spy thriller from its earlier literary form to the contemporary Hollywood manifestation in order to understand how this generic form impacts portrayals of the environment in two films: Quantum of Solace and Kingsman: The Secret Service. Each film represents a different environmental issue: in Quantum, drought imperils a South American country; in Kingsman, it is climate change that threatens humanity. Although distinct in terms of plot and focus, the films share in common a focus on the white male that will save humans from environmental disaster.
