Abstract
This paper takes its starting-point in the current challenge of technologies everywhere, among us all the time. I recapitulate my research in computer-mediated activity to discuss mediation and meaning in the current wider context of multiplicity in terms of artifacts and activities. By discussing an example, I emphasize the somewhat ignored role of meaning in ubiquitous settings. This ignored role is a challenge to activity theoretical HCI as well as to semiotic engineering, I argue.
