Abstract
At a time of global economic downturn, there is a temptation for healthcare organisations to focus on cost reduction rather than on quality improvement as a business strategy. However such a strategy can indeed be a dangerous one for patients, [1] with recommendations that the best strategy to advance cost savings is to improve the health status of patients through quality improvement [1–4].
