Abstract
Few conditions cause as much devastation to the human brain as stroke. This is particularly more so in young patients who are more likely to present with a genetic cause for stroke. This chapter sets the scene for the practising clinician who is faced with dealing with a ‘young’ stroke patient. It provides the canvas upon which the rest of this book paints in greater detail.
