Abstract
This chapter is essentially an idealistic one. It reflects on the key concerns and arguments that have emerged from my review of literature pertaining to the concepts of, and justifications for, different forms of community engagement. It envisions how a porous university would interact with its community by drawing on core concepts in the book (such as public good, community engagement, learning cities, Edu-village, service learning, power relationships, dialogue, community assets, knowledge, capabilities). Finally it proposes how the capabilities perspective can add value to the practice of university community engagement.
