Abstract

Many of the successful outcomes of this system may likely be attributed to functional integration by design, mainly since the transformation brought about with the enactment of the National Health Insurance Law (NHIL) in 1995. Universal coverage is provided by four non-profit health funds that serve as insurers and as care providers. This structural integration, and many other practices, policies, and technologies embedded in the system, make it a powerful case study for integrated care.
