Abstract
Majority of current geologic storage sites have largely been selected on the basis of petroleum industry’s practical experience and efforts that are used for screening suitable candidates (depleted oil fields) for commercial CO2-EOR projects. However, now, there are several methodologies and best practices are available for screening, selection, and characterization of favorable storage sites for future simultaneous CO2-EOR and storage projects. These methodologies and best practices can be used to the candidate sites according to their CO2-EOR and storage potential. After a regional proximity analysis and social context analysis for top candidate storage sites, initial characterization should be performed for most promising sites. Because detailed characterization is very expensive and lengthy process, hence, detailed characterization of any of the initially characterized sites should be con-ducted for only those sites that are being planned for commercial project status.
