Abstract
With eight victories in 15 years by the USA men’s national team against Mexico by the same 2-0 score, “Dos A Cero” has become a foundational myth of US soccer cultural identity. To understand this mystical score line requires an examination of the power of nostalgia as it is linked to sport, place, and rhetorical discourses of memory. This chapter begins by exploring the significance of place and memory in what has become the USMNT’s symbolic home stadium in Columbus, Ohio, and concludes by considering how “Dos A Cero” functions today—and will function in the future—as a fully matured nostalgic myth.
