Abstract
Recognizing the presence of recollection and forgetfulness and analyzing their roles within the narratives studied in this book reveals insights into each work, allowing us to consider potential readings of authorial representations of identity and character motivation. By defining memory in these works, we gain a more nuanced understanding of the process of recollection as a means of initiating transformation, a characteristic it acquires within the discourse and practice of confession.
