Abstract
This chapter builds on the previous chapters to examine the commonalities and the differences prevailing in writing centres across the Gulf region in terms of pedagogy, practice, and resources and the challenges that thwart their pursuit of success. Though it is premature to draw pertinent conclusions with respect to their future course of action on account of the scarcity of exhaustive studies on the subject, this chapter will seek to exploit the current available literature to attempt a lucid portrayal of the writing centres’ current situation. In so doing, it will posit itself as a sound critique that demarcates from the somewhat jubilatory tone that a number of writing centres try to adopt. Save few sporadic successes that have marked the growth of writing centres in the region, most, in their daily struggle to forge an identity of their own, are yet to attain the status of the kind of writing centres that legitimize any celebratory publicity.
