Abstract
This conclusion looks at the ways in which Kona has transformed over the past 30 years with the rise of tourism providing stable jobs that lead to a switch from full-time coffee farming to part-time coffee farming among the Japanese community. It examines the change of demographics in Kona, with many of the Yonsei (fourth generation) and Gosei (fifth generation) being educated in Honolulu or on the mainland, as well as the transformation of social institutions such as temples, kumi, and kenjinkai.
